Founded in 1971, the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) is a non-profit dedicated to preserving the history of trucks and the trucking industry, headquartered in Kansas City since the early 2000s after relocating from Birmingham, Alabama. With over 20,000 members worldwide, it’s the largest antique truck organization globally, hosting its first annual convention in 1972, which now features the National Convention & Truck Show, drawing nearly 1,000 historic trucks, like the 870 showcased in Madison, Wisconsin, in June 2025. The ATHS Visitor Center, located near Kansas City International Airport, houses the Zoe James Memorial Library, the world’s largest trucking history repository, with over 50,000 photographs, 35,000 pieces of sales literature, and 45,000 books. The American Trucking and Industry Leader Hall of Fame honors pioneers, while the Collections Gallery displays nearly 50,000 prints. The bi-monthly Wheels of Time magazine, honored with a 2025 Communicator Award, captivates enthusiasts with restoration stories. Open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, the center offers guided tours and a gift shop.
