Founded in 1989 by John McDonald, Boulevard Brewing Company has grown from a small operation delivering its first keg of Pale Ale to Ponak’s Mexican Kitchen to the Midwest’s largest specialty brewer, now ranked as the 4th largest craft brewery in the U.S. by the Brewers Association (2023). Housed in a historic Southwest Boulevard brick building, the brewery began with a vintage Bavarian brewhouse and has expanded significantly, including a $20 million project in 2006 and a $12 million “Cellar Five” expansion announced in 2024. Acquired by Duvel Moortgat in 2013, Boulevard produces iconic beers like Unfiltered Wheat, Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, and the Smokestack Series, alongside innovative releases like the 2024 35th Anniversary Ale with Holladay Distillery and MO’ BBQ, a barbecue-inspired quad crafted with the Museum of BBQ. The Tours & Rec Center, open daily (Monday–Thursday 12–9 PM, Friday–Saturday 11 AM–9 PM, Sunday 10 AM–6 PM), features a Beer Hall with over 30 taps, a rooftop deck, and daily tours showcasing sustainable practices like zero-landfill facilities and partnerships with Ripple Glass. The 2025 “Brew & Renew” Earth Day tours highlight eco-friendly brewing.
