Why St. Joseph
St. Joseph sits on a bluff above the Missouri River, and its downtown carries more genuine 19th-century history per block than almost anywhere else in the region. The Pony Express began here in April 1860, and the National Pony Express Museum now occupies the actual brick stables where riders once saddled up for the 1,900-mile relay to Sacramento. A few blocks away, the small white house at 12th and Penn Streets is preserved as the Jesse James Home Museum — the house where James was living under an alias when he was shot and killed by Robert Ford in 1882. The Patee House Museum, a former grand hotel that briefly served as Pony Express headquarters, rounds out a downtown built for walking rather than a quick drive-through.

You pick it up at check-in — no separate rental counter, no extra paperwork — and we handle pickup again when your stay wraps up.
Getting Around Downtown St. Joseph
The Pony Express Museum, the Jesse James Home, and the Patee House all sit within a short drive of each other downtown, each with accessible parking and ground-level or elevator access.
