Can I Rent a Wheelchair for a Day? Here's the Honest Answer

By KC Mobility Scooter Rentals · · Updated

Yes — sort of. We rent wheelchairs and transport chairs across the Kansas City metro for any single event, but the rate structure is weekly, not daily. The minimum charge is $50 (the weekly rate) regardless of whether you use it for an afternoon or for seven days. For a funeral, a graduation, a wedding, or a one-day visit, you book the week, use the chair for the day, and return it.

Here’s how it actually works.

The short answer

Wheelchair rental is $50/week or $100/month — there’s no daily rate on this category. The weekly tier is the entry point even for single-event use. Plus zone-based delivery starting at $25. Same-day delivery is available if you call before 2 p.m. — outside business hours, holidays, and last-minute requests may carry a service charge. We deliver to homes, hotels, venues, and KCI airport.

If you only need it for a few hours, you still pay the weekly rate — but the weekly rate ($50) is straightforward, all-in, with no daily-billing complexity. For most single-event customers, this is simpler than a per-day model.

Why no daily rate

We’re a hospitality concierge, not a hospital DME provider. Our pricing is structured by category:

  • Mobility scooters — daily, weekly, monthly, with rates varying by model ($45–60/day, $180–240/week, $400–500/month). The model variety and operational logistics (charging, walk-through, fit) justify per-day pricing.
  • Knee scooters, rollators, transport chairs, manual wheelchairs — weekly and monthly only. These categories have simpler logistics and the weekly tier ($50) is low enough that fragmenting it into a daily price doesn’t help most customers.

For a single-day funeral or a Saturday wedding, the weekly rate gives you the chair for the whole week — meaning you can deliver Friday and return Monday with no schedule pressure. Most customers find this simpler than a per-day rental window.

What’s included in a weekly wheelchair rental

The standard weekly rental ($50) includes:

  • The wheelchair (manual or transport chair, your choice)
  • Delivery to your address (or hotel or venue)
  • Pickup at the end of the rental period
  • Setup help — adjusting footrests, demonstrating the brakes, confirming fit
  • A standard cushion

Not automatically included:

  • Premium cushion upgrades (available on request)
  • Specialty configurations (reclining, tilt-in-space, custom seat sizes beyond our standard 16/18/20/22-inch widths)
  • Long-distance delivery beyond the standard zone schedule

Choosing between a wheelchair and a transport chair

For most single-event use, a transport chair is the right choice:

  • Lighter (15–20 lbs) — easier on the companion who’ll be pushing.
  • Folds smaller — fits any sedan trunk, lifts with one hand.
  • Faster setup — unfold, sit, go.

A standard manual wheelchair (35–40 lbs, with self-propellable rear wheels) is the right choice when:

  • The rider wants the option to roll themselves.
  • Distances are longer (Plaza walk, Zoo trip, multi-venue day) — bigger rear wheels handle outdoor surfaces better.
  • The rider needs a wider seat.

For a funeral, graduation, or wedding day, default to transport chair. For a Plaza tourism day, default to manual wheelchair (or step up to a mobility scooter if independent movement matters). Both rent at the same $50/week tier.

How to book

The fastest path:

  1. Call (913) 775-1098 with the event date, the rider’s approximate height/weight, the venue or address for delivery, and the time you need it on-site.
  2. We confirm availability and the right device.
  3. Delivery happens at your specified time. Setup takes 5 minutes — we adjust footrests, confirm the brake feel, and walk you through the basics.
  4. Use it for the event (the weekly window covers the day plus buffer).
  5. Pickup at the end of the week — typically the morning after the event or a few days later, whatever works.

Online booking through the reservation form on the main site is also an option. For tight timing or specific venue logistics, calling is faster.

Same-day rental in Kansas City

Same-day delivery is available if you call before 2 p.m. The standard pattern: order before 2 p.m., delivery happens within a few hours that same day. After 2 p.m. orders can sometimes be accommodated as same-day with a service charge for the off-hours window; otherwise, next-day delivery is standard.

Same-day situations we handle regularly:

  • A funeral notification with limited advance time
  • A family member’s flight arriving with an unforeseen mobility need
  • A relative’s surgery discharge that requires equipment at home
  • A weekend event where the family didn’t book equipment in advance

For weekend, holiday, and overnight emergency rentals, call directly — service charges apply but delivery is generally possible.

What about delivery to a venue rather than a home?

Delivery to a venue is straightforward. We’ve delivered to:

  • Funeral homes (timing matched to the visitation or service)
  • Wedding venues (matched to the ceremony or reception start time)
  • Graduation venues (matched to the rider’s seating window)
  • KC-area hospitals (for discharge pickups)
  • KCI airport (timed to the arrival of a guest with mobility needs)
  • KC-area hotels (the standard pattern for visiting families)

Specify the delivery point and time when booking. We typically arrive 30–45 minutes before the on-site time you give us, which gives the rider time to settle into the device before the event begins.

1–7 day use$50/week + delivery
8 days to 1 month$100/month + delivery (the monthly cap kicks in)

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a prescription to rent a wheelchair?
No, not from us. We rent without a prescription on a hospitality concierge model.
Why is there no daily rate on wheelchairs?
Wheelchairs, transport chairs, knee scooters, and rollators rent at $50/week or $100/month — weekly is the entry tier. The daily-rate model is reserved for our mobility-scooter fleet, where the operational logistics (model selection, walk-through, charging) make a per-day price sensible. For wheelchairs and transport chairs, the weekly tier is straightforward and covers any one-day event.
What if I need the wheelchair at 7 a.m. for a morning event?
We can typically deliver before 7 a.m. with advance notice. Same-day delivery requires the order before 2 p.m. the day before. For early-morning events, book the day prior.
Can you deliver to a funeral home?
Yes. Funeral home delivery is one of our standard scenarios. Provide the funeral home's address and the rider's expected arrival time, and we'll match the delivery to that.
What if the event runs longer than expected and I need to keep the wheelchair extra days?
Call us. The weekly rental ($50) covers up to seven days. If you need it past that, the monthly rate ($100) is the cap regardless of how long you keep it.
