The Garmin Kansas City Marathon is the largest annual running event in the metro — held each October with start and finish areas at Crown Center and the course running through downtown, the Plaza, Westport, and Crossroads. For runners' families with mobility limits — particularly older parents and grandparents — race-day spectating involves multiple viewing positions, weather variability, and the cold-October-morning standing time at the start.
We rent mobility scooters to those spectators. Hotel-delivered to a Crown Center hotel for the weekend, the scooter handles start/finish area circulation plus any streetcar-accessed mid-course viewing positions.
How Delivery Works for Marathon Weekend
Standard hotel-delivery workflow. We deliver to your Crown Center (or other KC) hotel before your check-in window, tagged with your name, and held by the bell stand or front desk. From the hotel, take the scooter to viewing positions via rolling distance (the Crown Center start/finish area is walkable from Crown Center hotels via the Link skywalk) or rideshare.
Why Crown Center is the right base
Crown Center hotels are uniquely well-positioned for marathon weekend:
- Start/finish access — short roll from any Crown Center hotel to the start/finish area.
- Link skywalk — Crown Center Shops, the Hallmark Visitors Center, and Union Station are indoor-connected to the hotels. On a cold marathon morning, this matters.
- Streetcar Main Street line — runs along central segments of the course, allowing spectators to move between viewing positions without battling closed streets.
- Plaza extension — opens Plaza-district viewing positions to streetcar access from the same Crown Center base.
Race-day spectator timing for scooter users
A representative race-day spectator timeline:
- Pre-race — roll to the start area. Cold mornings; layers matter. The scooter parks at an accessible spot near the start corral.
- Start gun — view start, runners proceed.
- Mid-race viewing — hop the streetcar to a Plaza or downtown position. Ride to a sit-down viewing spot.
- Late-race / finish — back to Crown Center for the finish-line viewing area.
- Post-race — meet your runner near the finish. Family meal at Crown Center Shops, Union Station dining, or Plaza area.
The scooter handles all of this comfortably. Without it, race-day spectating for visitors with mobility limits often gets reduced to "watch the start, drive to the finish" — missing the most rewarding mid-course segments.
