Transport chair or wheelchair?
- Transport chair: caregiver-pushed only. Small wheels. Lighter, folds smaller, fits any car. Best for short trips, events, airport runs.
- Manual wheelchair: large rear wheels. Caregiver can push, OR rider can self-propel by gripping the wheels. Heavier, slightly more car-bulk.
Most people land here the week before a graduation, a flight, or a hospital pickup, realizing the walking distance is more than the person they're with can do. They want a seat on wheels that fits in the car and lets everyone move at one comfortable pace. If the rider can't or won't self-propel and the trip is short, rent a transport chair. It's lighter for the caregiver to push and easier to load. If the rider wants to move on their own, get a manual wheelchair instead.

Transport chairs are the easiest item we deliver because they fold flat. Lawrence delivery starts at $75, includes pickup at the end of your rental. Every rental is a minimum of 2 calendar days, so for an event we usually drop off the day before or that morning and pick up the following day.

A wheelchair has large rear wheels, so the rider can push themselves. A transport chair has only small wheels, so it must be pushed by a caregiver. Transport chairs are 10-15 lbs lighter, fold smaller, and fit in any car trunk. They're the right pick when the rider can't self-propel and won't need to.
How much does a transport chair rental cost in Lawrence?

Can I rent a transport chair for one day?
Online rentals are a minimum of 2 calendar days, whether it's delivery or store pickup from our Leavenworth location. So a graduation, wedding, airport pickup, or reunion is booked as a 2-day rental. Billing is by the week (our shortest term), so any stay of a week or less is charged the $50 weekly rate. Need a single-day rental? Will it fit in a regular car trunk?
Yes, easily. Transport chairs fold flat and weigh 19-25 lbs depending on model. They fit in sedan trunks. The lighter "lightweight transport chair" version is the most car-friendly.
What's the weight capacity?
Standard transport chair: up to 300 lbs. For higher capacity needs, a manual wheelchair (which has frame reinforcement) is the better pick. Call us with the rider's weight if you're unsure.
Can the rider use a transport chair on their own?
Not really. The small rear wheels don't allow self-propulsion. They're designed for a caregiver to push. If the rider needs to move themselves around, rent a manual wheelchair instead.
