Happy to Come on and Talk

I'm Jeff Guzman. I retired after twenty years in the U.S. Army and have spent the last 3 years delivering mobility scooters and wheelchairs around Kansas City, on my own, out of a van.

If that's interesting to your audience, I'm glad to be a guest — podcast, radio, a student project, a local news segment, whatever it is. No fee, and nothing I'll try to sell anyone.

What I can actually talk about

Pick whichever of these fits your show, or bring your own angle:

Starting a business after the Army

Twenty years in the U.S. Army, then a van and a few scooters in 2023. What transferred, what didn't, and the parts of going out on your own that nobody warns a veteran about.

What this industry is actually like

Owner-operated, no staff, no warehouse. The delivery is the business and everything else follows from that. Happy to be specific about margins, equipment costs and where the money really goes.

Accessibility in Kansas City, honestly

Which venues, hotels and districts genuinely work for someone on wheels and which ones only claim to. This is first-hand — we deliver to these places every week and hear what happens afterwards.

Hospitality, not medical

Why renting a scooter for a weekend is nothing like durable medical equipment, and why that distinction matters to families who are trying to work out what they even need.

What families get wrong

The mistakes that come up over and over when someone is arranging equipment for a parent or a spouse — including the expensive ones, and the sales tactics aimed at people who are worried.

Opinions, if you want them

There are things about this industry I'd happily argue about on a microphone. Ask me what I think is broken and you'll get an answer rather than a press release.

Or come and be in ours

We put the day-to-day of this business on YouTube — equipment, deliveries, the parts nobody warns you about. Some of the best of it has involved other people.

People who use this equipment

What actually works and what is a nuisance, from someone who lives with it rather than sells it. Your face does not have to be in it if you would rather it was not.

Kansas City businesses and venues

Show us what you have done to make the place work for someone on wheels. If it is genuinely good, we would like more people to know.

Anyone with something to say

Caregivers, therapists, other small business owners, people who just have a view on any of this. Bring it.

Nobody appears without agreeing to it first, you can see it before it goes up, and if you change your mind afterwards we take it down. That is not a formality — say the word and it's gone.

Get in touch

Tell me what you're making and who it's for. If I'm not the right guest I'll say so, and I'll usually know someone who is.

Your details come to me directly. No newsletter, no list, no passing them on. Prefer to talk? Call 913-775-1098.

Straight answers

Have you done a lot of interviews?
Not many — I'd rather say that than pretend otherwise. What I have is a van full of stories from actually doing the work, and no media training to get in the way of telling them. If you want a polished professional guest, there are better bookings. If you want someone who will answer the question you asked, I'm useful.
Remote or in person?
Either. Remote is easy and I can usually do it with a few days' notice. In person works anywhere in the Kansas City metro, and I can generally make Topeka, Lawrence, St. Joseph or Columbia work with a bit more warning.
What do you charge?
Nothing. I'm not selling a course or a book and there's nothing for your audience to buy. I'd rather more people knew this kind of business exists and that renting is an option — that's the whole return for me.
Can we film at your place, or on a delivery?
Yes, and it makes for a better segment than a talking head. You can film the equipment, a van load-out, or ride along on a real delivery — with the customer's permission asked first, every time, and a no from them is the end of it.
What if our audience has nothing to do with mobility?
Then the business is probably the wrong angle and the story isn't. Small business, veterans going out on their own, or what it's like to run something single-handed where every delivery is your own reputation — those work for a general audience. Tell me who's listening and I'll tell you honestly whether I'm a fit.
How do I actually get hold of you?
The form below, or straight to jeff@kcmobilityrentals.com. I read them myself and normally come back within a business day.
