Rollator vs. walker — what's the difference?
The old "walker" is a 2-wheel or 4-leg frame without a seat. You pick it up slightly with each step. Older design, mostly seen indoors.
A "rollator" is a 4-wheel rolling walker with hand brakes and a padded seat built into the frame. You roll it (no lifting), stop and sit when you need a break, then keep going. Almost everyone renting "a walker" today actually wants a rollator — the seat alone is worth it for anyone covering more than a few hundred feet.
Common reasons people in Lawrence rent
- KU graduation — relatives who can walk but tire out across the long campus distances. Sit between waypoints, walk in for the photo.
- Family weddings and reunions — older guests who want to dance for one song and rest between sets.
- Post-fall or post-surgery confidence — patients home from rehab who aren't fully steady yet. The 4-wheel rollator is much more stable than a cane.
- Travel and tourism — visiting family in Lawrence and want a backup for the day at the Plaza, the zoo, or downtown shopping.
What we rent
- Standard rollator — basic 4-wheel with hand brakes and seat. Folds for car loading. Most-rented model.
- Medline F-22 rollator — heavier-duty frame, larger wheels for outdoor use.
- Lightweight Euro-style — much lighter and more compact, folds smaller. Good for car-trunk transport.
Delivery and use
Rollators are the smallest equipment we rent — they fold flat and we can deliver in a sedan if you'd rather we drop it at a hotel or family member's house. Standard delivery to Lawrence starts at $75. The fee covers the round trip; we come back to pick up at the end of your rental.
What's not included
- No insurance billing. Direct-paid.
- No prescription needed.
- No medical advice. Talk to a physical therapist if you're not sure whether a rollator or a cane fits your needs.
Frequently asked
How much is a rollator rental in Lawrence?
Standard 4-wheel rollator with built-in seat: from $19/day, $79/week, $199/month. Lightweight Euro-style: from $25/day. Lawrence delivery starts at $75. Single-day rentals are fine for events.
Is a rollator the same thing as a rolling walker?
Yes — same product, different names. A rollator (sometimes "rollator walker" or "rolling walker") is a 4-wheel walker with hand brakes and a built-in seat for resting. The older 2-wheel walker without a seat is technically called a "walker" — but most people use "walker rental" interchangeably with rollator. We rent the 4-wheel rollator with seat as the default.
Can I rent a walker for one day?
Yes. Many of our rollator rentals are one-day for graduations, weddings, or family events where someone walks a long distance and needs a place to sit when they get tired.
Do rollators have a seat?
Our rollators do — that's the main upgrade over an old-style walker. The built-in padded seat lets the rider stop and rest mid-walk. The frame folds for car loading.
What's the weight capacity?
Standard rollator handles up to 300 lbs. Bariatric (heavy-duty) rollators are available on request for higher weight; call ahead so we can confirm and bring the right model.
Will it fit in my car?
Yes. All our rollators fold flat for trunk loading. The lightweight Euro-style folds to about the size of a small suitcase. Standard rollators are slightly bulkier but still trunk-friendly.
