Pediatric hospitalizations bring extended-family visitors. Grandparents fly in. Aunts, uncles, and adult cousins drive in from across the Midwest. The extended family that gathers around a child’s hospital stay usually includes one or two people with their own mobility limits, like older grandparents or caregivers managing chronic conditions while showing up for the family.
Children’s Mercy Kansas City, known to most KC residents simply as Children’s Mercy or “the children’s hospital,” is the metro’s primary pediatric hospital. The campus sits on Hospital Hill in midtown KCMO, a substantial walking footprint with multiple connected buildings, long corridors, and the kind of multi-floor circulation that wears on visitors over a multi-day visit. A mobility scooter rental helps the extended family show up the way the patient needs them to without burning out.
How Delivery Works for a Children’s Mercy Visit
Standard hotel-delivery workflow:
- Reserve the scooter and your KC-area hotel separately.
- We deliver to your hotel before your check-in window, tagged with your name. Bell stand or front desk holds it.
- Hotel to hospital via personal vehicle or rideshare. The scooter loads into accessible vehicles and most SUVs/minivans.
- At the hospital: accessible parking, accessible main entry, and elevators to the patient floor.
- Same in reverse at the end of each day.
We do not deliver to Children’s Mercy directly. Hospital staff focus on patient and family-program services rather than vendor equipment intake.
Children’s Mercy vs. Children’s Mercy Park
Two unrelated places that share the name:

Hotel choices for a Children’s Mercy visit
Crown Center: Westin, Sheraton, Hotel Kansas City. Closest cluster with hotel-to-hospital rideshare in the 5-8 minute range. The Link skywalk system connects these hotels to Crown Center Shops and Union Station. That’s a welcome break from the hospital for grandparents who’ll spend most days at the bedside.
Downtown KCMO: Loews, KC Marriott Downtown, Hilton President, Hotel Indigo, Hotel Savoy, Hotel Kansas City Autograph Collection. 5-10 minutes to the hospital by rideshare.
Plaza area: slightly farther (10-15 minutes by car), but the Plaza’s restaurants, shopping, and walkable streets make it a real change of pace from the hospital. Crown Center Plaza extension on the streetcar line connects them.

Multi-week pediatric hospitalizations
Some family visits run for weeks. For visits running multiple weeks:
- Weekly rates are more economical than daily cumulative.
- Monthly rates apply for visits running 30+ days.
- Mid-rental swap: if a different scooter model fits better as the visit goes on, we’ll swap it.
- Multi-unit family rentals: for extended families with two or more visitors needing scooters (e.g., both grandparents), tell us at booking and we’ll deliver multiple units to the same hotel in one stop.
What we explicitly don’t do
- We don’t bill insurance for the patient or the visitor.
- We don’t communicate with the hospital’s care team about the patient.
- We don’t provide patient mobility equipment.
- We don’t give health advice.
This is a hospitality rental. There’s no paperwork, and you pay us directly. For equipment the patient needs, the hospital’s care team is the right place to start.
