Start with the thing most families get wrong.
MCC does not hold a ceremony at each campus. There is one combined, district-wide commencement at Cable Dahmer Arena, 19100 East Valley View Parkway, Independence, MO, whether your graduate studied at Blue River, Longview, Maple Woods, Penn Valley or online.
It is split into two sittings on the same day, 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., and the split is by the graduate's own choice of time, not by home campus. So ask your graduate which sitting they picked. Two relatives from the same family have turned up at different ones.
(While we are correcting things: MCC's current campuses are Blue River, Longview, Maple Woods, Penn Valley and Online. There is no "Business & Technology" campus any more, though older directions still mention one.)
Timing and the venue
The pattern is a Thursday in the third or fourth week of May, with two sittings. Verified: May 18 2023, May 22 2025, May 21 2026. The ceremony runs about two hours. There is no December or fall ceremony. No 2027 date is published yet, so the date shown here is our estimate from the pattern. Confirm it with MCC.
The venue has been the same arena since at least 2023, and one detail from MCC's own FAQ is worth having: "Is there a rain date? No. Cable Dahmer Arena is an indoor venue."
Indoors is good news. No grass, no weather contingency, climate controlled, and a paved parking lot. Of all the area graduations, this is among the more straightforward ones physically. The challenge is distance and crowds, not terrain.
A Thursday ceremony is also worth noting for travel: relatives flying in are taking a weekday off, and the 6 p.m. sitting means an evening drive home across the metro.
What MCC publishes and what it does not
The accommodations contact is Ashley Fagan, ashley.fagan@mcckc.edu. A phone number (816.604.1426) appears in an archived version of the FAQ rather than on the current page, so email is the more reliable route. General questions: mcc.commencement@mcckc.edu. The livestream offers real-time captions.
Beyond that, being honest: MCC publishes no detail on ADA seating locations, drop-off points, wheelchair availability or shuttles. We are not going to invent any.
On parking, the only statement we can find is from an archived 2023 version of the FAQ: "Parking at Cable Dahmer Arena is free for this event. When you arrive, Cable Dahmer guest services will direct you to available parking, including ADA accessible parking if needed." The current page says nothing about parking, so treat free parking as likely-but-unconfirmed rather than a guarantee, and plan for the possibility that it has changed.
Similarly, "no tickets required" was true in 2023 but is unconfirmed for the current year. Ask MCC rather than assuming.
The practical version: email Ashley Fagan early, say which sitting you are attending, and ask where accessible seating and accessible parking will be. Arena guest services direct arrivals on the day.
What we do
We deliver a mobility scooter, wheelchair, transport chair or rollator to your home or hotel, cleaned and charged, and collect it afterwards. Independence and the eastern metro are routine deliveries for us.
Two sittings in one day means two arrival peaks and two departure peaks in the same parking lot. If yours is the 6 p.m., you are arriving as the 1 p.m. crowd is leaving. Extra time, and wheels for anyone who needs them, both help.
Booking
Tell us the date, which sitting, and where you are staying. Late May is peak season for us and commencement dates are the tightest in it, so call as soon as your graduate tells you their time.
