MidAmerica Nazarene University Commencement: Mobility Scooter Rental & Visitor Guide

Dates:
Saturday, May 8, 2027 — two ceremonies, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (confirmed)
Venue:
College Church of the Nazarene

MNU graduates at College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, next to campus but at a different address. Two ceremonies in one day, an accessible north entrance under an awning, and confirmed dates through 2028.

MNU has the best-confirmed future dates of any school in the area, which makes this the easiest graduation to plan far ahead.

Confirmed: Saturday, May 8, 2027 and Saturday, May 6, 2028, both with ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The ceremony address is not the campus address

Commencement is at College Church of the Nazarene, 2020 E Sheridan St, Olathe, KS 66062, in the Sanctuary. The campus is at 2030 E. College Way, next door, but a different address. Put the church in the GPS, not the university.

This is stable: the same church with identical parking and accessibility wording appears in MNU's 2023, 2024 and 2026 pages. MNU's own Bell Cultural Events Center, Cook Center and Land Gymnasium are not used for commencement.

Two ceremonies, one Saturday

Traditional Undergraduate at 10 a.m.; Professional Undergraduate and Graduate at 3 p.m.. Each runs about two hours. Nursing Pinning is the Friday evening before.

Two ceremonies means two arrival and departure peaks in one day at a church parking lot. If yours is the afternoon one, you are arriving as the morning crowd leaves.

What MNU publishes for guests

Specific and genuinely guest-facing:

Since the accessible entrance is on the north side, the north lot is the closest accessible approach. Head there first.

That seat-saving rule is the one to plan around. If your party is arriving in shifts and someone is holding seats, the holding stops half an hour before the start. Whoever walks slowest should not be the one arriving last.

A realistic note about the venue

This is a church, not a university arena. Parking capacity and seating are the church's, and MNU publishes no capacity figure. "Wheelchair accessible seating in various spots" is a helpfully honest phrase. It means spaces exist around the sanctuary rather than a single marked ADA section, so arriving early to find a good one matters.

We deliver a scooter, wheelchair, transport chair or rollator to your hotel in Olathe or wherever you are staying in Johnson County, charged and ready. MNU does not recommend specific hotels (its page links a generic third-party hotel finder), so you are choosing freely, and we deliver across the metro either way.

Booking

Tell us the date, the ceremony time and where you are staying, and we will have the equipment there, cleaned, charged and ready, before you need it. Commencement weekends are the tightest dates in our year, because every family in the same position is booking the same morning. Call as soon as you know the date rather than the week before.

Questions people ask us

Where is MNU graduation held?
At College Church of the Nazarene, 2020 E Sheridan St, Olathe. It's next to campus but a different address from the university at 2030 E. College Way. Use the church address. MNU's own Bell Cultural Events Center and Cook Center are not used for commencement.
Where is the accessible entrance?
MNU publishes that the accessible entrance is the north entrance, covered by an awning. Parking is open in the church lots on the east and north sides, and the north lot is the closest accessible approach. There is wheelchair accessible seating in various spots throughout the sanctuary.
When are the ceremonies?
Saturday, May 8, 2027 and Saturday, May 6, 2028 are both confirmed on MNU's academic calendar, each with two ceremonies: Traditional Undergraduate at 10 a.m. and Professional Undergraduate and Graduate at 3 p.m. Each runs about two hours. There is no December ceremony.
Can we save seats for family arriving later?
Only up to a point. MNU publishes that seats may not be saved after 9:30 a.m. for the morning ceremony or after 2:30 p.m. for the afternoon one, with doors opening an hour before each. Make sure the slowest walker in your group is not the last to arrive.
Who do we contact about accessibility?
Shawnda McLeod at 913.971.3393 is the named contact on MNU's commencement page. The Registrar's office (registrar@mnu.edu, 913-971-3626) is the alternative.
Are strollers allowed?
Not in the sanctuary. MNU publishes that strollers must be parked in the lobby, along with balloons, signs and party poppers. A rollator or wheelchair is mobility equipment rather than a stroller, but if you have any doubt about a specific device, call the contact above before the day.
