The single most useful thing to know about UMKC graduation is that it is not on campus.
UMKC's campuswide commencement ceremonies are held at T-Mobile Center, 1407 Grand Blvd, downtown in the Power & Light District. Hooding and recognition events are separate, and those are on campus at Swinney Recreation Center. Families have turned up at Volker Campus for the wrong one.
That distinction changes everything about planning the day. A campus ceremony means a campus parking lot. A T-Mobile Center ceremony means a downtown garage, a city block or two of sidewalk, and an arena concourse. For anyone who struggles with distance, that is a very different day.
Timing
The pattern is mid-May, three ceremonies in a single day, plus a December ceremony. UMKC's spring 2026 parking map states ceremonies at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on one Saturday.
A caution, because UMKC's own pages are currently inconsistent: the guidelines PDF is titled 2025, the parking map's internal metadata disagrees with its filename, and the December dates are printed without a year. As of September 2026 no spring 2027 date is published. The date shown on this page is our estimate from the pattern. Confirm the real one with UMKC before you book anything.
What UMKC publishes
Not a great deal, honestly. The commencement page gives an accommodations email (erce@umkc.edu) and links to Student Accessibility Services. The guidelines PDF covers service animals and the bag policy but no ADA seating detail. For venue access, UMKC links out to the arena's own FAQs.
On parking, UMKC publishes a map of downtown lots and garages roughly between 11th and 14th, Baltimore to Locust, with this advice: "Please allow enough time before the event for parking and seating. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open one hour prior… Rates and availability may vary."
There is no UMKC shuttle mentioned anywhere on its pages. Tickets are not required.
What the arena publishes, and whose statement it is
The accessibility detail for this ceremony belongs to T-Mobile Center, not UMKC. We are repeating it as the venue's own published guest-services information, and it can change without UMKC saying anything:
- Accessible seating is arranged through the ticketing system or ticketoffice@t-mobilecenter.com.
- The arena states it offers complimentary wheelchair escorts at entry points, with wheelchair storage at Guest Services.
- Accessible drop-off, entrances and restrooms; free assistive-listening receivers with ID; ASL requests about two weeks ahead.
- Venue phone: 816.949.7100.
- Per the arena, Oak Street is the passenger drop-off zone, including ADA drop-off, and Grand Blvd is typically closed during events.
An escort from the door to a seat is genuinely useful. Note what it is not: it does not cover the walk from a garage on 12th Street to the door, and it is not a mobility device you keep for the day. If someone needs to be seated and then get back out to the car afterwards through a crowd of three ceremonies' worth of families, having their own scooter or chair is a different level of independence.
What we do
We deliver a mobility scooter, wheelchair, transport chair or rollator to your hotel or home, and collect it when you are finished. For a downtown ceremony this is the easy version: if relatives are flying in and staying at a Power & Light or Crossroads hotel, the equipment is waiting at the hotel, they use it all weekend, and nobody is negotiating a garage lift with a walker.
Three ceremonies in one day also means three arrival and departure peaks. If yours is the 2 p.m., you are arriving into the 10 a.m. crowd leaving. Extra time is not optional.
Booking
Tell us the date, the ceremony time and where you are staying, and we will have the equipment there, cleaned, charged and ready, before you need it. Commencement weekends are the tightest dates in our year, because every family in the same position is booking the same morning. Call as soon as you know the date rather than the week before.
KC Mobility Scooter Rentals is an independent rental company. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking on behalf of any college or university, and we do not control any campus or venue policy. Details here were read from each school's own published pages in September 2026. Always confirm the current year's arrangements with the school before you travel.
