How Mobility Scooter Delivery Works for Allen Fieldhouse Visits
Standard hotel-delivery workflow. We deliver to your Lawrence (or Kansas City–area) hotel before your check-in window, the scooter is tagged with your name, and the bell stand or front desk holds it until you arrive. From the hotel, take the scooter (and your accessible-seating ticket) to the arena via personal vehicle or rideshare. The scooter parks beside your accessible seat through the game, then goes back to the hotel for overnight charging.
We do not deliver directly to Allen Fieldhouse. Game-day venues are unpredictable for individual handoffs and the arena’s accessibility staff focus on guest-facing services, not equipment intake.
Accessibility at Allen Fieldhouse
Allen Fieldhouse is a 1955 building substantially renovated for current ADA compliance:
- Accessible main entry with automatic doors and level approach.
- Accessible parking in the lots adjacent to the arena, accessible to those with state-issued permits.
- Accessible-seating sections distributed across the arena bowl with companion seats and adjacent space for personal mobility devices. Available through KU Athletics ticket office; limited supply, especially for marquee opponents.
- Elevators to all upper levels and concourse circulation.
- Accessible restrooms on all major levels.
- Concourse circulation is wide enough for scooter movement, though high-traffic moments (timeouts, halftime) compress the available room — plan timing accordingly.
Confirm specific accommodations with KU Athletics’ guest services team when you purchase tickets. Accessible seating books up earliest for high-profile games — request as soon as tickets are released.
Best Lawrence hotels for an Allen Fieldhouse game
The Oread Hotel sits on KU’s campus boundary at 12th & Oread, the closest hotel to Allen Fieldhouse. The Eldridge on Mass Street is downtown — short rideshare to campus. Hampton Inn Lawrence and Hilton Garden Inn Lawrence are practical chain-brand bases for late bookers.
For visitors based in Kansas City driving in for a single game, plan an extra 45-60 minutes for traffic on game days, especially men’s basketball.
Game-day scooter routing
The scooter’s job on game day:
- Hotel to game: rideshare with the scooter (it loads into accessible vehicles and most SUVs/minivans). Personal vehicle works if you have a folding model and trunk space.
- Parking lot to gate: roll across the accessible-parking-to-entry route. Lighting is good; surfaces are paved.
- Concourse: roll between concessions, restrooms, and your section. Accessible elevators to upper levels.
- At your accessible seat: the scooter parks beside your seat. KU’s accessible-seating sections allocate the adjacent space.
- Post-game: same in reverse. Allow extra time — the arena empties quickly and the parking-lot exit can be slow.
Combining Allen Fieldhouse with other KU events
Many guests visit Lawrence for a multi-event KU weekend — a basketball game, a football game, Family Weekend programming, or graduation events. The scooter is a single rental across the entire weekend. Reserve the rental for your hotel-stay duration and the scooter is yours from check-in to check-out.
For graduation specifically, see our dedicated KU Commencement / Walk Down the Hill mobility guide.
