Kearney sits on the north side of Clay County, and most visitors come for its Jesse James history. The Jesse James Birthplace, on the family farm east of town, pairs a museum with a walk out to the farmhouse and grounds. Each September, Jesse James Park fills for the Jesse James Festival, which includes a road race and a state championship barbecue cookout at the Kearney Amphitheater. A few miles east, Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site keeps a 19th-century mill and farm on a rural hillside, and Smithville Lake’s paved trails start a short drive west.
All of these involve more walking than people expect. Parking lots sit well back from the action, paths shift from pavement to gravel to grass, and the park has real hills.
Where we deliver in Kearney
We deliver to homes, hotels and short-term rentals in Kearney and the surrounding farm country, including Holt, Lathrop and Plattsburg to the north. If you are in town for the festival, a summer concert or a long family visit, we bring the equipment to where you are staying and go over how it works before we leave. Delivery to a venue itself is available on request for an added $50–$75.
The drive from Leavenworth
Our shop is in Leavenworth, Kansas, about 56 minutes from Kearney by road. Delivery is zone-based by driving distance, and the reservation flow shows the exact fee for your address before you confirm.
Planning your visit
For festival weekend, reserve early. September is a busy month across the Kansas City area, and Kearney’s festival draws visitors from well beyond Clay County.
For the birthplace and the woolen mill, think about the ground you will cover. A mobility scooter lets you move between buildings at your own pace and keep up with the group. A transport chair is a lighter choice when someone is along to push and most of the day is indoors.
